Welcome to ~ The Fioretti ~ On behalf of all the editors of Marian University’s literary magazine, The Fioretti, we are excited that you have taken the time to look at what we have to offer! Our goal as editors is to show the Franciscan values, which are the dignity of the individual, peace and justice, reconciliation, and responsible stewardship. With this platform, we hope to share work from students of all backgrounds to show off their creativity. Everyone's voice matters in the Marian University community! Kadin Gaviola | '27 Literary Editor Kadin Gaviola, the new literary editor for the Fioretti, is a senior studying English and global studies. She is a presidential ambassador and is involved in Model UN, campus activities board, peer mentoring, and peer tutoring on campus. Anna Kvasnik | '27 Poetry & Visual Arts Editor Anna is a senior Psychology & English major. Along with her service dog, Stella Luna, she enjoys writing, researching new things, and playing music. When she's not working on the Fioretti's website, she's most likely sleeping, dancing around her room, or creating new memories with her family and friends. Violet Richins | '27 Prose Editor Violet Richins is a Senior student at Marian University working on a double major of English and Secondary Education. When she's not questioning her sanity, her favorite pastime is reading with medieval lofi beats. Faith Vernon | '28 Prose & Poetry Editor Faith is a sophomore secondary education and English major with a minor in ENL. She is eager to spark a love for language in her future students! In addition to reading and writing, she enjoys baking cookies, thrifting, eating ice cream, and spending time with her friends and family. Faith loves the art of storytelling, whether it be through a novel, Netflix series, rap album, or true crime podcast. Dr. Scott Guild Faculty Advisor Scott Guild is the author of the novel Plastic (Pantheon). His work has appeared or is forthcoming in TIME, NPR, Prairie Schooner, Literary Hub, Electric Literature, and many others. Raised in the Northeast, he is now a professor of English at Marian University. Kaitlyn McNamee | '26 Managing Editor Kaitlyn is a senior at Marian studying English, business, and global studies. She is heavily interested in literature, especially classics, and is looking forward to her last semester editing for the Fioretti, this time as the managing editor. Julianna Britt | '28 Prose Editor Julianna Britt is a sophomore majoring in English and Ministry Studies. Outside of reading and writing, she enjoys building legos, creating playlists, and spending time with Jesus in one of the many chapels on campus. Her favorite book is The Knife of Never Letting Go. Caroline Seley | '28 Poetry Editor Caroline is a sophomore English Major aiming for a master's in library science. She loves reading, spending time with her cat, watching YouTube, and solving puzzles. This is her first year on staff ever, and she is editing poetry. Dr. Rachel Cochran Faculty Advisor Rachel Cochran's short stories and essays have appeared or are forthcoming in The Rumpus, Masters Review, New Ohio Review, Prairie Schooner, and more. Her novel The Gulf was released by Harper in 2023. She currently serves as Associate Editor of Machete, a literary nonfiction book series put out by the Ohio State University Press; she also works as an assistant professor at Marian University, where she teaches courses in literature and creative writing. ~ Our Past Team Members ~ Meet some of the previous students behind The Fioretti! Submitting to ~ The Fioretti ~ Welcome, all! Readers and creatives alike are welcome in this space, whether experienced or inexperienced in the ways of creating. Our goal is to support all in our efforts to widen the publishing horizons for those in the Marian community. We encourage you to submit to grow your platform and community of people that you reach with your creative works!
