"85 degree october," by Bella Lentz

1 min read

an eighty-five degree october where

the leaves lick the ground with fire red flames

the hot sting of an asphalt trail

my sweat in my mouth

an eighty-six degree october wherein the eight

is an infinite symbol of a serpent,

six marked with hellfire

an eighty-seven degree october within

a seventy- eight degree summer

all my sweaters are soaked

an eighty-eight degree october

the air compounds on itself

afterimages tasting afterimages

it is too hot to scream

an eighty nine degree october

the windmills migrate south

the sun rises west

and i wait

it is too hot to think

ninety degree october

God help us all
