"I Wish I Were You," by Anastasia K. P. Lucia

Little black bird,

Your voice is absurd,

Like a little, naive child,

You dance in the wind,

I wish I were you,

Flying so high,

Away from your troubles,

Away from your fears,

They can't chase you here,

Way up high,

Up in the bright blue sky.

How I wish I were you,

Oh I wish it were true,

That I could fly too,

Way up high,

The sky looks so far away from down here,

I’m so close to my fear,

I wish I were way up there,

Up in the sky,

Why can't I fly?

My voice comes out shrill,

Not quite like you,

Your voice is so sweet,

Silly as it is,

I wish I were you,

I want to fly too,

It is my greatest wish little bird,

Please give me your wings,

Then I will fly too,

Come down little bird,

let me capture your wings,

I will hold them close,

I will treasure them too,

And in the dark blue,

I will fly too.
